On Sunday, Russia fired 57 missiles and drones into Ukraine, including to attack Kiev and the western Ukrainian Lviv region, officials said, and Polish armed forces say one in every of the Russian cruise missiles briefly violated Polish airspace.

The Ukrainian Air Force destroyed 18 of 29 missiles launched by Russia and 25 of 28 attack drones, the Ukrainian Air Force reported on the Telegram messaging app.

There were several explosions in Kiev early on Sunday morning, and Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed several missiles fired by Russia over the capital and its surroundings, Serhiy Popko, head of the Kiev military administration, said on Telegram.

He added that the attack caused only minor damage.

Russia has been attacking Ukraine for days, presenting it as revenge for Ukrainian attacks during the recent presidential elections.

“For the third pre-dawn morning this week, all of Ukraine is under an air alert and advised to seek shelter,” wrote U.S. Ambassador Bridget Brink on Sunday morning on Program X.

“Russia continues to launch drones and missiles indiscriminately, disregarding millions of civilians, in violation of international law.”

Russia’s defense ministry didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.

Polish airspace

One of the Russian cruise missiles launched near Lviv in western Ukraine violated Polish airspace, the Polish armed forces said.

“The object entered Polish space near the town of Oserdow (Lublin Voivodeship) and stayed there for 39 seconds,” the armed forces say on the X social media platform. “It was observed by military radar systems throughout the flight.”

The armed forces previously said that Polish and allied aircraft were launched during the attack to make sure the security of Polish airspace.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyy said on Telegram that there have been no attacks on the city, but about 20 rockets and 7 attack drones were fired into the wider Lviv region, targeting “critical infrastructure.”
