Crosetto is an intelligent politician, but he's a ministry of a republic. I am rather confident Italy wouldn't step back to an eventual coalition stepping into Ukraine to free more local troops for front line operation, but there has to bee a large consensus about that.

There's still a lot of propaganda in Italy (especially on TV) from agents acting in the interests of the Kremlin.

I heard that mortar rounds were in great shortage on the front from a forward commander on an interview, so he apparently has heard the same thing. RPVs are becoming more available, as I understand it, but that is in no way a replacement for hand carried short range explosive rounds. When you are standing there unable to respond, that is how you lose ground, not much yet, but every little bit matters. Bakhmut wasn't terrible significant strategically, but unfortunately Avdiivka was, to a greater extent , in terms of opening advance…as I understand it.

It costs Ukrainian lives now, and the greater problem is that it costs many more than that in the future when they have to retake land. When they enter very close quarter combat in the towns the high loss ratio that Ukraine is generating drops to about 1:1 and Ukraine cannot operate in that regime, just by relative numbers of population available to each nation.
