All a magician has to do Is say "this is a normal…" pencil, deck of cards and were already on high alert. NO ITS NOT!? What did you rig? What's in your jacket? What is your other hand doing!? And watching the whole stage where we may assume nothing is going on. And the damn thing is in the audience, or our pocket?! Or in an envelope above the stage the whole show.
Speaking of magic, do you think computers are a logical result of math and a desire to find an answer? One of the reasons I ask is the relevance of responsibility of power, another reason is what possible answer would require such a device?
I know exactly what he is trying to say @ around 26:59 . When I'm reading books to my children at night, I try and do voices with the different characters. And I have to be slightly ahead visually in the story if the character speaking isn't stated until the end of the sentence. And I will often unintentionally say words that make the sentence make sense to me or sound how I would say it. I always recognize that I said the wrong word, or arranged them in a different order, but it still come out of my mouth.
There can be no departure from reality on perceptual level of our consciousness. However, on conceptual level lack of alertness and misinterpretation may happen.
Im more blown away that Neil deGrasse Tyson can't pronounce something 😂 he is human after all… awesome… joking aside I never fail to get educated listening to his perceptions and factual views of the universe.
Dear Neil, how did the white rope on the wall get on your wrist? it just suddenly is there i was sure i had fallen asleep (i keep doing that, post surgery meds… ick) but i dont think i did. he is very good if you can give you a bright white bracelet rope and you dont seem to notice it. i am extremely dyslexic (spellchecker is getting better so i can hide some of it) but i constantly find double THE THE in books since i have to read every letter and every word. i just cant remember how to spell the word. i have a friend who is a speech pathologist who suspects i have minimal to no sight words. i explain that the self i store words on was build on a slant, so they all fall to the floor and brake into letters. i have to use the rules of spelling and phonics to reassemble the words each time i use them, unfortunately i randomly use different rules to make the sound of the word. i very much enjoyed your chat about magic, i hope you got to keep the rope as a remembrance.
One day while driving I came upon a stoplight. After a few moments the light began to blink; but yet I stayed at the stoplight for a few moments longer than I generally would. I knew what the blinking light meant, but for some reason I tricked myself into being lost in thought. Prior to this, I've never been at a stoplight which changed to blinking while being at the head of a line of cars. Was I stumped? Yes. Did I stay at the light longer than I should have? Absolutely, plus I was aware that I was lost in thought. Interesting episode. Thanks for allowing me to experience mental gymnastics along with you.
Anyone who wants to know more about this, there was a 2 episode Nova (season 50, episodes 5 and 6) on “Your Brain” with neuroscientist Heather Berlin. Covers “perception/deception”, etc. Excellent, if you liked this StarTalk you’ll like these Nova episodes.
I'm really looking forward to the Penn & Teller magic books to come out. Been to many shows and watched many performances and I have so many questions on how so many things are done. I hope it doesn't take too awful long for them to put it together with thier writer.
What's your favorite illusion?
All it took was a world famous physicist to get Teller to talk.

What a great talk! love it!
I have yet to pull off any of these people. He mis-spoke.
it's a reduction of reality more than a simulation.
Nothing revealed…
Great talk. But I have to point how beautiful her hair is. ❤
This women tingling my senses.
Chef's play with the illusions of smell, taste, and sight.

It's amazing how Teller throws his voice into his mouth and makes it look like he is talking.

T-TELLER CAN SPEAK…?!
Should have been all Teller
12:22 – "Evolution will not lead to optimization, but just good enough." Sums up a big piece of being human and overcoming the bugs in our software.

The little girl inside me still believes teller can't speak 🙊😂😂😂
didnt think Teller could talk
Is there a full interview with teller I can watch?
wow he has voice after all ^^

So what I'm understanding is that Penn is a furry thing with big claws and large teeth.
Neil would know all about illusions..
37:52 discontinuity alert, a rope has appeared on Neil's right wrist 😮
Awesome talk. Derren Brown had fascinating insight into hypnosis, and how many people genuinely believe what you tell them vs what is real.
I saw Penn and Teller’s “Asparagus Valley Cultural Society” in the early’80’s. Teller hasn’t spoken on stage in all these years.
Neil should get Brian May on
LOVE this! Probably the most intelligent thing I have discovered on Youtube!
Do yourself a favor & skip ahead for all the Teller sections.
I don't like the co host, kept cutting off Neil, made the show unenjoyable.

As an individual with neurodivergency I can change my perspective and see through some illusion if I try and make my brain see it that way.
Love the format of this one… verry well done
"Nobody can multitask." Lies. People multitask everyday. She spent the whole time listen to them while trying to think of what she would say next.
OMG, he talks!
Didn't know Teller sounded like Paul Giamatti.
Linda Susana!
She is so kiut woman, love the way she talk.
I met teller once. Lovely guy.
