LEDs have gotten smaller, and the latest generations of indexed RGB LEDs are much more faithful than their already small predecessors. [Alex Lorman] has Wrote several notes with a small a part of SK6805-EC10 A series of LEDs that could be helpful for individuals who need to learn to take care of them in a more controlled way.
Most forms of equipment can be very aware of devices with a size of 5050, sold as neopiksels in some vertebrae, that are so named due to the physical 5.0 mm x 5.0 mm in horizontal dimensions. Many LEDs are determined by this straightforward width by depth. When it involves addressable RGB LEDs (although not all addressable LEDs are RGB, there are numerous strange and great mixtures!) Another most typical standard size on a scale is 2020, also generally known as “Dotstar”. They are sufficiently small to present an actual soldering challenge, and obtaining an excellent place to put requires real skills.
[Alex] I wanted to make use of even smaller EC10 or 1111 devices which have a shocking 1.1 mm x 1.1 mm! Adafruit product page He mentions that they will not be intended for manual soldering, but we’ll bet you should try! Anyway, [Alex] He created a trace of Kicad and a useful test printed plate to characterize and get used to serving these little suckers, which may help someone on the way. They notice that soldering with a hot air flip -off requires low temperature paste (this author recommends the use of MG chemicals from the T3 SN brand42BI57AG1 Paste on this application) and really small heat to avoid cracking of open cases. Also, low air flow rate to stop them from blowing on a desk would even be smart. Perhaps they’re more adapted to a hot plate or an appropriate convection oven?
As a bonus, [Alex] he had earlier He worked with a rather larger device SK6805-1515with several good additional notes around the interesting effect of non -linearity and required Gamma correction To get an excellent color perception. We will leave it to readers to kick. Happy soldering!
We have not seen many projects using these 1111 LEDs yet, but here it’s One dug with a bigger unit 1515.
