The moment Sofia Falcone walks into that fateful family dinner wearing a yellow dress in episode 4 of “Cent’anni,” actress Cristin Milioti cemented the character as considered one of the best Batman villains ever. Her canary in the coal mine is considered one of the show’s best scenes, and it was a collaboration between Milioti, showrunner Lauren LeFranc and director Helen Shaver.
By this time, we’ve got already seen the events that led to her father making the mafia heiress a scapegoat for the murders at the hands of the Hanged Man and the trauma she endured in Arkham due to him; she was only free of his sins after his death in But even then, her freedom got here with more bad juju, no because of Oz, as she quickly lost her brother and the drug empire’s plans in the present day. In “Cent’anni”, she faced her family who continued to gas her, sending her to Italy in an try to take over like so many others before her.
In an interview with IndieWirethe actress shared how much team effort it took to create her dream role as a Batman villain with LeFranc. “Almost as soon as I signed up. I had an hour-long phone call with Lauren who walked me through everything, and then I got the first four scripts,” Milioti said. “I had time to call her and confer with her and really sit down with them and undergo them and she or he type of walked me through the last 4 in terms of what was occurring, the highlights, but so I got them pretty quickly after I logged in.”
From the very starting, Milioti was ready for anything. “I’m a huge Batman fan. My lifelong dream was to become a Batman villain and really showcase her full arc. For it to come from the female brain – you can just feel it, you can feel it,” she said.
The yellow dress has spawned multiple threads on Reddit where it might be found; in fact, it was created by costume designer Helen Huang specifically for the moment when Sofia steps into her power. “I had 10,000 fittings for this dress,” she said. “Helen and I talked continuously about what can be the most casual and permit us to see that body language – for the first time you see her really respiratory, experiencing joy and lightness… and yet we wanted it to indicate all the scars after which we also knew that “In the end, this gas mask will be fine, so I also wanted to do something with her eyes so that you could see it through the viewfinder of the gas mask.”
Milioti described Sofia’s appearance on the scene as showing her “new war paint” and signaling that “there was a change in her. The combination of all these things was extremely exciting. And also knowing that we are building this Batman villain, when will you be able to do it?”
Milioti hopes to return to the role as much as the rest of us because there are “limitless possibilities” where Sofia can proceed to work.
“Of course I want her to leave Arkham. It’s like number one. I don’t want her there. So I want to see him come out and then take his revenge,” she said. “She might be an even looser cannon now since she was focused on him before and gaining power, but depending on what happens to her there, he could be an even bigger target. I would love to explore this.”
