I’ve been writing about Apple for over 20 years, and while it may sound like an old man yelling on the cloud, I’m here to let you know that it ain’t what it used to be. It used to be more fun.
No, don’t rise up.
Please eat the raspberry candy. I even have a bowl filled with them. I do not know why. I do not even know where they got here from. They appeared just after my last birthday. Already covered in dust. I assume I should look into this.
Besides, it’s true that it’s easy for me to say that Apple recording used to be more fun. I began “covering” Apple by writing a fake Apple gossip site in 2001. Every day I just let my imagination run wild, got Apple into it and typed it out. Damn, those were the times. (Before you get jealous, I was making about $50 a month doing this, if I was making anything in any respect.)
But talking about Apple used to be just talking about . In the start it was Mac computers. New, old, things that were rumored to be coming, macOS features, apps (they were called “apps” back then, in the event you can imagine it) and peripherals. The technology was tangible. Then there have been iPods. Apple delivered recent ones yearly, giving writers plenty to speak about. Sure, we talked about terrible things like DRM, and there was even somewhat confusion over Steve Jobs’ stock options. But even within the early days of the iPhone, every little thing was just… fun.
Too big to play with
You know the story. Until Apple revolutionized the smartphone world with the iPhone, it was a baby. Even when he was creating the best-selling digital music player, he was still somewhat of somewhat boy, at all times one step away from being pushed out of business by the competition. “Microsoft will ship Zune and be a foil for Apple!” Apple’s fall has at all times been just over the subsequent hill.
With the arrival of the iPhone and the App Store, every little thing modified. It seems that the monkey paw all of us dreamed of within the mid-Nineteen Nineties to prevent Apple from going bankrupt had a flaw. Who would have thought that monkeys’ paws could have defects? Not I.
Apple’s astonishing growth from 2007 to the current has placed it in a very different category of company. Depending on the day, it is literally the most important company on the planet by the worth of its shares. No matter how many individuals an organization employs, it is solely too big to ignore. It transformed from a dwarf star right into a black hole.

Do now we have to speak about politics?!
On vacation?! Yes, we do it. That’s a part of the issue when we’re talking about Apple now. The company has attracted the eye of governments all over the world, and Apple now feels forced to fight where it can and is reluctant to play football all over the place else.
Have you heard of something too big to fail? It’s also too big to tiptoe past. Apple has drawn interest from each Democrats like Elizabeth Warren, who says the corporate ought to be dissolved, and Republicans like Donald Trump, whom Tim Cook personally believes it essential to reassure with factory visits and congratulations so the corporate won’t be hit by tariffs. The company continued to argue with the National Labor Relations Board. And the EU and Apple almost actually have one another on speed dial.
Seriously, I just want to speak about computers. Is this an excessive amount of?
Yes, that is an excessive amount of to ask
Apple just is not the identical small company we grew up with. And it doesn’t appear like the corporate will shrink to a smaller size any time soon. It happened great and attracted us, like a highschool friend who became wealthy but still invites you to parties along with his recent wealthy friends (who’re all morons). Of course, there are still and at all times will probably be products offered by the corporate, and these products will foster the identical rumors, launch events, reviews and user manuals that now we have at all times enjoyed. But now it’s all there.
Of course, all this “other stuff” has at all times been there because technology is political (I hate to be the one to let you know this, but every little thing is a method or one other). We could just ignore it because Apple was smaller. At least now that Apple is big enough to create its own gravitational field, people have stopped predicting that it will stop working anytime soon. It is.
