Trying to field the primary wicket, which helped the bowlers rather a lot, worked well for Melbourne Renegades. The pace duo of Tom Rogers and Will Sutherland eliminated Finn Allen, Mitchell Marsh and Cooper Connolly in a 34-run powerplay. Ashton Turner and Nick Hobson weren’t with Aaron Hardie for long as the rating was 86/5 in 14 overs. With Hardie being 34 years old, the Scorchers opted for an influence increase, which allowed Ashton Agar to unlock his arms despite Hardie’s departure. After scoring 25 runs in a floating powerplay, Agar hit the opposition within the slog overs, bringing up his fifty despite a pair of wickets to take the hosts to 147/8 in 20 overs.
Unlike their opponent, the Renegades didn’t start the second round even halfway decently thanks to Jason Behrendorff’s killer opening. His double-goal maiden was followed by Jhy Richardson and Lance Morris, who combined for a pair of goals, pushing Gades to 10/4 midway through the fifth. A 34-run stand then ensued, with skipper Will Sutherland taking control of the chase together with Marcus Harris. Although the opener was now not ready within the tenth quarter, Sutherland kept the Renegades within the fight with Tom Roger present. At 66/5 in twelve overs, the pair added 45 runs in the subsequent 4 overs before Agar conceded six within the seventeenth over. With 31 required within the last three overs, Sutherland departed for a 45-ball 70 for twelve runs within the 18th over. With twelve balls remaining within the last over, Matthew Kelly conceded a pair of no-balls and one six, establishing a run-a-ball equation with three balls remaining.

What a tremendous batting display from Will Sutherland @will_suth12 and Tom Rogers of their clash with the mighty Perth Burners.
The captains after they lost 4 for 10 and due to injury they’re missing a batsman but these two continued to play. #BigBashLeague #bbl— Emo (@MustiJeevitham) January 7, 2025
Early
Gades was 4/10 in 4.3 overs, essentially 5/10 with Wells injured. Playing the Scorchers in Perth over the previous couple of seasons has been almost unwinnable for any traveling team and arguably one of the best bowling attack. How Gades won it 😅😲 Sutho with a captain’s knock ceaselessly #BBL14

Defeated
Will Sutherland and Tom Rogers have just beaten the Perth Scorchers in Perth after 92 runs for the sixth wicket. After scoring 44-5 in 9.3 overs and chasing 147, they did the unthinkable.
The best match of the season. #BBL14
