The Ratho center can now host international competitions in all three climbing disciplines

Everyone could have access to recent amenities
The recent bouldering facilities on the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho are now open.
This makes the ability the one climbing center in the UK with international standards for all three climbing disciplines: lead climbing, speed climbing and bouldering. The project received £100,000 of National Lottery funding from Sport Scotland.
Nic Crawshaw, Climbing Director at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena, says: “Designed for experienced climbers, these walls complement our existing facilities, offering even more opportunities for climbers to push their limits and improve their skills. We were truly honored to have the opportunity to work with some of the best tour operators in the world.”
Being the most important climbing gym in the UK and the one venue for international competition, the EICA has hosted the European Lead and Speed Championships and World Cup in recent years, however the bouldering facility required upgrading to accommodate all three International Sport Climbing Federation and Olympic disciplines.
Emma Ogilvie-Hall, chief operating officer at Edinburgh Leisure, which manages the ability, said: “Indoor bouldering, which is currently the most widely practiced form of climbing, will ensure that EICA can continue to be a world-class facility for all three climbing disciplines – lead, speed and bouldering – while ensuring that climbers of all ages and abilities have access to opportunities to participate in and advance in the sport.”
