About 55,000 members of the Canadian Postal Workers Union have been on strike for 2 weeks.
WASHINGTON – United States Postal Service announced temporary suspension of international postal services to Canada due to the ongoing national strike by Canadian postal workers.
The service disruption is impacting many mail and parcel delivery categories, including Priority Mail Express International, First-Class Mail International and various other international shipping services. Customers should refrain from shipping to Canada until further notice.
The strike, which began on November 15, involves roughly 55,000 postal workers from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, who’ve been negotiating with Canada Post for nearly a 12 months. Union officials say they’re demanding fair wages, higher working conditions and other key workplace improvements.
Canada Post warned that as well as to current delays, processing and delivery may require a big period of time to return to normal once the strike ends.
Those with a pending international shipment to Canada are encouraged to check USPS International Service Alerts page with the latest information.
Customers with urgent international shipping needs are advised to investigate alternative delivery methods or postpone shipments to Canada until the labor dispute is resolved.
