NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Lisa Stockton, who served as head coach of the Tulane women’s basketball program for 30 years, is retiring.
Stockon leaves Tulane Basketball because the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach within the state of Louisiana.
She recorded 591 wins at Tulane, leading the Green Wave to nine consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, 11 total and 10 trips to the NIT.
Her 654 profession wins rank her twenty seventh on the NCAA’s all-time lively wins list.
Following the announcement, Stockton released an announcement on social media saying: “It has been an honor to be the Tulane women’s basketball coach for the past 30 years. Since arriving in 1994, Tulane and New Orleans have change into my family and residential. I actually have loved every moment of this incredible journey, but I actually have reached the finish line of my coaching profession and I’m ready for the following chapter.
Stockton added: “Today I want to give a special thank you to all of my players, past and present, and their families, with whom my lifelong bond is of the utmost importance to me. Without a doubt, my proudest achievement is the 100% completion rate for our student-athletes who complete their eligibility in our program. A Tulane education will impact their lives for years to come.”
Stockton then thanked her current and former assistant coaches, in addition to your complete athletics department, saying, “Nobody achieves anything significant in life without others, and my assistant coaches and staff over 30 years have been instrumental in our success and impact on students and community. They were all invaluable and I won’t ever have the option to thank them enough for every part they mean to me and Tulane. I might also wish to thank the presidents and athletic directors with whom I actually have had the distinction of working throughout my profession. Without the best level of support, we might not achieve success.”
Lisa Stockton won 63 percent of her games at Tulane and averaged nearly 20 wins per season. Tulane has seen just five losing seasons in her 30-year profession.
She led the Green Wave to 4 Conference USA regular season titles and five Conference USA tournament titles. She was twice named Conference USA Coach of the Year and Louisiana Coach of the Year.
Lisa Stockton has been inducted into the Conference USA Hall of Fame as a member of the category of 2023. Stockton is predicted to debate her decision during an on-campus news conference Thursday.
