NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – Officials with the Federal Bureau of Investigation have released recent video recorded by the suspect in the Jan. 1 terrorist attack on New Orleans.
According to FBI agents, Shamsud-Din Jabbar visited the city in October 2024.
During a press conference on Sunday, January 5, agents released a video recorded using Meta glasses as Jabbar rode his bicycle through the French Quarter.
While driving, the glasses captured Jabbar driving down Bourbon Street, passing unsuspecting residents and tourists. He then drove down a side street until he reached Canal Street.

At 1:53 a.m. on Wednesday, January 1, security cameras throughout the neighborhood captured Jabbar leaving a cooler containing an IED on the corner of Bourbon and St. Peters, but tourists moved it to Orleans Street.
From there, FBI agents said, Jabbar was seen walking down Governor Nicholls Street at about 2:20 a.m. to retrieve a second refrigerator containing an IED that had been planted at the corner of Bourbon and Toulouse Streets.
About an hour later, at roughly 3:15 a.m., Jabbar drove a rental truck at high speed on Bourbon Street, killing 14 people and leaving dozens injured.
A monument consisting of 14 crosses decorated with flowers and beads was placed at the site of the terrorist attack in memory of the missing people.
The President and First Lady of the United States Joe and Dr. Jill Biden will travel to New Orleans for a prayer service for the victims.
