METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — Irish luck has arrived on Metairie Road for the tenth annual LCMC Health St. Patrick’s Day Classic Race.
Race director Eric Stuart said despite rain showers throughout the morning, he had little question people would show up for the race.
“They understand it’s a race, they are not afraid to get wet they usually need to run. So they prepare, stay dry and wait to depart. We’re going to get wet, but we’ll have a good time doing it,” Stuart said.
Runners, walkers and a number of dwarves from across Louisiana competed in the two-mile fun run to qualify for the Crescent City Classic. Rosanna Marks said she loves running and preparing for races helps her so much.
“I’ve already run a half marathon and it’s really about pushing my limits. I run as many mornings as I can and I take care of my health,” Marks said.
In the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day and birthday celebrations, one runner says she’s running in the rain with those she loves most.
“There’s nothing better. The only thing that would be better is if my family were here, but these guys are my family too. It’s just exciting. It just makes it all make sense,” the running back said.
But it’s greater than only a race. Marks explained that everyone seems to be running for cause, as donations are made to several local charities.
“I just love Crescent City and the entire organization. I have competed in the Crescent City Classic before and giving back to the community is really important to me,” Marks said.
Westwę resident Bryan White Jr. was the top male finisher with a time of nine minutes, 30 seconds. Laura Doody of New Orleans was the top woman with a time of 10 minutes, 45 seconds.
The Crescent City Classic 10km race will happen on Saturday, March 30.
