NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The Blood Center is asking for donations after a fatal “act of terrorism” that took place in the French Quarter on New Year’s Day.
The FBI said a minimum of 15 people were killed and dozens injured after an individual drove a automotive right into a crowd on Bourbon Street and fired shots at police.
FBI officials said investigators have identified the suspect: 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
In response to the attack, the Blood Center organized an emergency blood drive for victims on Wednesday, January 1 and Thursday, January 2.
Blood Center officials said the holiday season is often donor-free and supplies turn into low.
“We wholeheartedly unite with all those affected by this senseless act of violence. Our local community will make a difference by donating blood, and we must replenish what was used today as we prepare for the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and other upcoming events,” said The Blood Center CEO and President Billy Weales.
