Friends of the New Orleans Public Library postpone their books and collect trainers to lift funds at Crescent City Classic 10k Road Race, on Saturday, April 19.
The non -profit organization is currently looking for runners and walkers who will help them support the mission of the Public Library in Nowy Orlean to remodel their lives, enrich the districts and keep history. Together with the executive director Shannan Cvitanovic on the helm of the organization, this 12 months friends will participate as an official charity organization “Run for It”.
Official charity organizations recruit and form teams of runners, joggers and walkers who undertake to gather a minimum of USD 200 for a charity for the day of the race. Cvitanovic hopes that library lovers of all ages and skills will bring their best feet to assist them achieve the goal of obtaining funds of USD 10,000. As she put it: “We would all prefer to read, but ok!”
“New Orleania love the library and we thought it would be a great way to collect library supporters for a funny day,” said Cvitanovic. “We are looking forward to hitting the street and show how many people support the library and its programs. Some of us are slow, some are fast, but we all agree on the values of strong public libraries. “
From 1957, friends helped finance library services, programs and resources – similar to the beloved summer challenge Fun & Reading. All influence from Crescent City Classic will profit from this work, which the librarian and executive director Emily Painton called “extremely influential”.
“Friends do so much for the library every day, all year round, and we are infinitely grateful for their hard work and spokesman,” said Painton. “From financing our youth public transport pass to providing programming materials, and even helping our employees in their career, friends are extremely important for our success. We are lucky to be their benefactor and we are glad that we can cheer them up on the side of this wonderful event. “
The event begins in SuperDome at 8 am and ends with a celebration after the race in City Park. Registration is currently open to $ 45 for a runner, which is able to increase to 50 USD on April 17. The last day of registration is April 18. All participants who will collect over USD 300 for charity will receive a full return of registration.
