All shootings occur inside 12 hours of one another. There were two more shootings on Sunday.
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans was violent Saturday with eight separate shootings that left three men and a 3-year-old boy dead and nine other people injured, in line with the New Orleans Police Department.
It was a brutal holiday weekend in New Orleans, with 4 people injured in a shooting on Canal Street and a 3-year-old boy dying from a gunshot wound in Central City. Early Sunday morning, two more shootings occurred, leaving one dead and one injured.
Officers from (*8*)New Orleans Police Department Authorities said they responded to reports of a shooting in the 700 block of Canal Street shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.
When officers arrived, they found 4 individuals with gunshot wounds. The Emergency Medical Team transported the victims to the hospital. Their conditions weren’t immediately known.
Police haven’t released additional details concerning the incident or identified any suspects since the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact New Orleans police or Crimestoppers.
Police are also investigating the death of a 3-year-old boy at a house in New Orleans’ Central City neighborhood. The family later identified the kid victim as Ashanti Ratliff.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded around 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a toddler with a gunshot wound. The boy was transported by private vehicle to University Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
NOPD’s initial investigation indicates the incident occurred at a house in the 2200 block of Willow Street. NOPD child abuse detectives are working to find out the circumstances of the shooting.
No further details were provided because the investigation is ongoing.

Brutal weekend in New Orleans
The first incident occurred in the West Lake Forest neighborhood around 4:25 p.m. in the 6700 block of Tara Lane, where two men were found shot outside an apartment. Both victims died on the scene and their identities are pending release by the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office.
Later in the evening, a shooting was reported in the 200 block of Bourbon around 7:30 p.m. Police initially said the shooting occurred in the five hundred block of Canal Street. Officers said they found a person who had been shot no less than once. He was taken to hospital.
Another shooting occurred in the 1000 block of Canal Street at 8:45 p.m., injuring one man. He was hospitalized.
Another shooting occurred, this time in the Little Woods neighborhood at 9 p.m., leaving two men injured in the 8900 block of Bunker Hill Drive, including one with multiple gunshot wounds. All victims were transported to hospital. The investigation into the shootings is ongoing.
Gun violence continued late Sunday evening. A person was found shot to death in the 2100 block of Louisiana Avenue. The emergency medical team pronounced him dead on the scene. Few details can be found because the NOPD investigation is ongoing.
A 21-year-old man arrived on the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds after he was shot in the 7000 block of Crowder Boulevard around 7:50 a.m. Sunday. The police are also investigating this shooting.
Community leaders reply to a weekend of violence
A spate of gun violence over the weekend stalled community leaders who spoke out against the violence on a weekend that saw 1000’s of individuals come to town for the Bayou Classic and holiday shopping.
Louisiana Rep. Alonzo Knox released an announcement on Sunday calling for motion.
Gov. Jeff Landry, who has taken steps to combat violence in New Orleans by stationing state police in the town, also commented on the recent shootings, saying, “We will not tolerate this type of violence in our state.”
New Orleans city councilor and potential mayoral candidate Helena Moreno said: “This is terrible. I contacted Chief Kirkpatrick, who is actively working with LSP to track down the shooters. We will not allow our community to be terrorized and those responsible will be held accountable, praying for the victims and those injured in this tragedy.”
The city of New Orleans expressed its condolences and prayers to the families in an announcement.
