This impact should mainly affect tracking and payment firms. Links Field works with Lyra M2M to make the transition easier.
The Brazilian market is preparing for the shutdown of 2G and 3G mobile networks, already announced by Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency), which should apparently happen regularly. The agency also announced that from April 2025, recent equipment using only these communications technologies will not be approved on the market. On the other hand, large operators have already began replanning their 2G and 3G antenna networks.
According to an unprecedented local market study by Links Field, an M2M-focused virtual telecom operator (MVNO), 1000’s of Brazilian firms will be impacted in the coming years as of the 20 million tracking and payment devices on the network in today’s market, 12 million still use connectivity 2G and 3G. On the other hand, based on the Brazilian Internet Association (Abranet), many Brazilian municipalities still have 2G or 3G mobile connectivity, comparable to 40 of the 62 municipalities in Amazonas.
The business impact of this shutdown is anticipated to be roughly A$10 billion (US$1.6 billion), which will must be absorbed by businesses across the country, including many micro and small entrepreneurs. These costs concern the purchase of 4G devices (with higher data transmission capability and higher energy efficiency) and alternative services for obsolete equipment already on the market. To mitigate the impact of this technological transformation, Links Field joins Lyra M2M, a Lyra Group company focused on IoT, M2M devices and connectivity, offering the market precise information and tools for line management and shielding of Brazilian networks.
For Paulo Nogueira, business director of Grupo Lyra, “This type of cooperation is a sign of market maturity. A necessary step for IoT companies to rely on integrated and personalized, high-performance solutions with an emphasis on quality and technological innovation.”
Founding Partner and CEO of Links Field Brasil, Thiago Rodrigues, adds:
“The market has been on the lookout for more information and transparency about the technologies which can be having this impact on their business, and this partnership goals to bring innovation and information to the M2M segment. Lyra M2M’s experience in connectivity management aligns with our technique to empower customers to make decisions at this pivotal moment in technology transformation.
