The Dow Jones Industrial Average and S&P 500 reached latest highs on Friday after a shortened trading day that ended a powerful month for stocks.
The index of the largest firms recovered 188.59 points to 44,910.65
The broader index rose 33.64 points to six,032.38.
The NASDAQ Composite rose 157.69 points to 19,218.17.
The Dow rose 1.4% this week, extending its November gain to 7.5%. The S&P 500 Index and NASDAQ Composite Index each gained 1.1% during the week, ending the penultimate month of 2024 with gains of over 5% and 6%, respectively. Thanks to those gains, the Dow and S&P 500 indexes recorded their best months of 2024.
Lam Research rose 3% and Nvidia rose greater than 2%.
The stock market closed at 1 p.m. EST on Friday for Thanksgiving. There were no economic data releases or corporate earnings reports of note on Friday.
Prices of 10-year Treasury bonds rose, lowering the yield to 4.18% from Wednesday’s 4.25%. Treasury bond prices and yields are moving in opposite directions.
Oil prices fell 57 cents to $68.15 a barrel.
Gold prices rose by $9.10 per ounce to US$2.73.90
